About
My name is Imre Fitos.
I lead technical operations and development at Public Interactive, a non-profit public media service provider. We’ve been helping public broadcasting stations with their online presence and projects since 1997.
Prior to Public Interactive, I spent almost two decades with communications service providers in Europe and North America, in research & development, strategy, and management. I was involved in innovative projects using MPLS, integrated data/video/voice services, scalable web architectures, large fiber networks, global clustering and the like.
I also spent years building and managing Operations Services and Support teams, supporting the same services I was building out. The feedback from people using my own designs was … priceless.
I like talking and writing about my work. I’ve been featured in newspapers, magazines and on television, although my last years were spent at more secretive companies. My focus is on the people driving the technology, on organizational challenges, on getting strategy to become reality.
I started working with public media in 2008. I find it – and especially the people behind it – fascinating, quirky, caring, smart, incredibly diverse, deep and rich. I think it’s a national treasure; I am committed to its preservation and growth.
So what do I bring to the table? From the startups: pragmatism, speed, adaptivity, frugality. From the carriers: reliability, scaling, long-term planning. From my parents: humility, active listening, and passion.
I believe in no silver bullet. Large problems comprise of many smaller problems that have to be solved piece by piece. Different people have different, yet completely valid perspectives on the same issue – and no one solution can address all of their problems.
I like reading industry blogs and listening to industry people. I am new enough to push changes, but old enough to first look up the experts who already came up with the same idea. I feel fortunate to be involved with such a wonderful group of people at such a crucial time of transformation.
This blog is an excuse to start a conversation with you.
Take care,
Imre
